25th Meeting of the UN–AU Joint Task Force on Peace and Security Held in New York

On 27 September 2025, the United Nations–African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security convened its twenty-fifth consultative meeting in New York. The meeting brought together senior officials from both organizations, including the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, the AU Permanent Observer to the United Nations, the UN Under-Secretaries-General for DPPA, DPO, and DOS, the SRSG for UNOAU, the ASG for Africa, and other representatives.

Discussions focused on peace and security developments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan, as well as the upcoming elections in West Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau). Both organizations agreed to work closely with ECOWAS to promote peaceful, inclusive, and transparent elections with the full participation of women and youth.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2719 and reaffirmed joint commitments to strengthen cooperation in mediation support, advance the Women, Peace and Security and Youth, Peace and Security agendas, and enhance efforts to protect children in conflict situations. A joint communiqué was issued at the conclusion of the meeting.
