UNOAU Joins Discussion on LRA Demobilization and Resettlement

On 3-4 March, nearly 40 stakeholders involved in Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Reintegration and Resettlement (DDRRR) of the LRA met at the AU in Addis Ababa to review current procedures. Participants included government representatives from the four affected countries, the AU Regional Task Force, Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) and Defence and Security Division, the US Departments of State and Defence, ICRC, IOM, UNOCA, UNICEF, UNOAU, MINUSCA, MONUSCO, UNMISS as well as civil society representatives. They reviewed the LRA DDRRR Status Report which provided a diagnostic of the current DDRRR processes, identified challenges, and agreed on solutions including: creating a LRA DDRRR Network map to list players and activities, and creating a focal points list. They also agreed on steps to take to improve the DDRRR process.Progress will be reviewed at the LRA Focal Points meeting in Entebbe on 5-6 April.
