Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

17 Jan 11 - Update on Khor Abeche situation

17 January 2011 - UNAMID conducted yesterday a short range patrol to Sereef, Kalaka and Um Elkura villages, located respectively 11 km, 16 km and 16 km north of Khor Abeche, South Darfur, and found the localities deserted. The team observed that most of the houses in Um Elkura were destroyed and also noticed that the Khor Abeche market was closed.

More than 9,500 inhabitants of the area are still sheltered outside UNAMID’s team site, where the Mission provides them protection, water and emergency health care.
