Fifth African Union-United Nations Annual Conference

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres and AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomed the continuing strong cooperation between the two Organizations on 2 December at the UN headquarters in New York. The leaders, meeting at UN Headquarters for the fifth African Union-United Nations Annual Conference, also reviewed progress in the implementation of the UN-AU Joint Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security” and the “AU-UN Framework for the Implementation of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They also discussed several areas of UN cooperation with the African Union, including the pandemic’s impact on the African continent, climate, the situation in the Horn of Africa, Libya, the Sahel and other areas of concern, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the issues of vaccines. A joint communiqué was issued, welcoming the continued‑ strong cooperation between the two organizations.
