Assessment of Nigeria-10 Formed Police Unit conducted

An assessment of the Nigeria-10 Formed Police Unit (FPU) that is due to rotate in March 2021 to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), was conducted from 14-18 February. UNOAU participated in the assessment as part of an inspecting team that comprised of AU Officers from Police Planning, Police Operations, Military Medical Planning as well as the AMISOM Police FPU expert.

The team met with the Nigeria Federal Police Director of Peacekeeping Operations, who briefed on the training of the Nigeria-10 FPU and provided the team with the nominal roll of officers who had been trained. The Formed Police Assessment Team (FPAT) leader briefed on the objectives of the assessment, and thereafter the team broke into two groups according to specialization, namely medical and police officers screening.

The police group assessed personnel in several skills including communication, field operations such as Public Order Management. At the end of the assessment, the Nigeria-10 FPU was found ready to deploy pending some medical examinations.
