On 7 July, the SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Ayanga met with a Delegation from the German Federal Foreign Office led by Ms. Jennifer Morgan, Special Representative for International Climate Policy, former Greenpeace International Chief. The meeting was attended by the German Ambassador to Ethiopia and the AU, Stephan Auer; the Political Advisor on Multilateral Energy Policies, Philipp Aeppler; and the Political Counsellor at the German Embassy, Irina Hoehn. The SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU briefed the Delegation on the AU Peace and Security Council’s efforts to address the issue of climate security as well as on the impact climate change has on African countries. 

The Special Representative for International Climate Policy highlighted the various initiatives supported by the German Government with the aim of addressing the climate crisis, and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to help deliver on the 100 billion pledge made at COP26.
