UNOAU launches Gender Policy Brief on "Digital Inclusion in the Women, Peace & Security Agenda in Africa"

On 8 March, UNOAU organized a panel discussion to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD), in line with this year’s IWD theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. The event was opened by the SRSG to the AU and the Head of UNOAU, who underscored the importance of the session in drawing a focus to the gender gap in the context of the digital divide on the African continent.

The panelists included Representatives from UN Women, UNESCO and the International Telecommunications Union. The panel discussed the challenges faced by women regarding digital inclusion, the emerging practices and trends in promoting digital inclusion, as well as the role of digital technologies in enhancing women’s inclusion in peace processes.

During the event, UNOAU also launched a policy brief on ‘Digital Inclusion in the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Africa’, with the support of the Government of Sweden. The policy brief outlines the opportunities and challenges for women's digital inclusion in peace processes in Africa through the four pillars of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325.
