UNOAU participates in a PSSG Virtual Workshop to Update Catalogue of AU Police Documents for Peace Support Operations.

On 11 July, UNOAU participated in a Police Strategic Support Group (PSSG) virtual workshop to Update the Catalogue of AU Police Documents for PSOs. The workshop, attended by the AU, PSSG experts from Member States and external partners, was the last of a series of events aimed at developing an updated catalogue of AU Police documents on PSOs covering the period between July 2023 and 2025. As a result of the exercise, the status of the PSSG catalogue which includes AU police documents on PSOs was updated, cleared and classified as follows: a) documents to be initiated; b) documents in progress; c) documents finalized and cleared; and d) documents finalized with pending approval by the AU. During the workshop, documents pending finalization or development by the PSSG were also cleared and approved. The updated catalogue of AU police documents that have been developed by the PSSG and cleared by the AU in 2023 include: organizational Structure of Police Component in  ATMIS; Terms Of References (TOR) for Police Commissioner (PC)/Head of Police Component (HOPC); TORs Police Operations and Formed Police Unit (FPU) Coordinator; TORs Police Reform, Restructuring and Development Coordinator, ATMIS; TORs Police Training and Development Coordinator, ATMIS; TORs Police Chief of Staff, ATMIS.

The workshop concluded with the recommendation for the PSSG to continue to support and provide technical advice to the AUC in the development of the AU Police Policies, Guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials to ensure that the AUC is able to utilize officially finalized documents only.   Continued support of the PSSG will be key to build capacity within the AU to develop a library/repository of AU specific policies, guidelines, and training materials.
