UNOAU provides technical support to GIZ Planning Workshop

From 14 to 16 March, the German Development Agency (GIZ) hosted a Project Planning Workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The objective of the workshop was to develop a joint Police Project between the AU Peace Support Operations Division (AUPSOD) and the GIZ for the period 2023 to 2025. The UNOAU participated in the workshop and provided technical input. Other institutions present at the workshop included the German Embassy in Addis Ababa, the German Foreign Office, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Representatives of the AU and ATMIS, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the East African Standby Force (EASF), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the North African Regional Capabilities (NARC), the British Peace Support Team-Africa (BPST-A), and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The workshop discussed the development of an ASF Police Roster System, activities of the Capacity Development and Police Strategic Support Group as well as thematic areas of GIZ support to AU PSOD. The project will also support activities of ATMIS, the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) and the regional economic communities/mechanisms (RECs/REMs). The workshop ended with the adoption of a draft GIZ – AU Police Project for the period 2023 - 2025.
