SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU Meets Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the AU and Chair of the AU PSC for May 2025

On 7 May, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga met with Ambassador Harold Bundu Safa of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) for the month of May, to exchange views on the AUPSC Programme of Work.

The SRSG acknowledged Sierra Leone’s role in support of the AU’s collective efforts in advancing peace and security on the continent as demonstrated in the PSC’s Program of Work for May, including the successful convening of the PSC session on Security Sector Reform (SSR) on 7 May. SRSG intimated to Ambassador Safa regarding focused preparations for the upcoming Joint Annual Informal Consultative meeting between the PSC and the Security Council, which will be hosted by the AU, highlighting the need for early preparations.

The SRSG also discussed the upcoming Joint Annual Consultative meeting between the PSC and the UN Peacebuilding Commission, highlighting that it will also be hosted by the AU this year, and advocated for early technical-level preparations.

Ambassador Safa welcomed UNOAU’s sustained support to the work of the PSC, especially around strengthening collaboration between both AUPSC and the UN Security Council through the monthly informal meetings of the UNSC President and AUC Chairperson.
