SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga Participates in High-Level Roundtable on the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub during Climate Week 2

On 5 September 2025, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, Mr. Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, participated in the High-level Roundtable on the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub: Vulnerability Forum, convened by the COP29 Presidency during Climate Week 2 in Addis Ababa.

SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga delivered opening remarks, alongside Ambassador Elshad Iskandarov of the COP29 Presidency, Dr. Fitsum Assefa Adela, Minister of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, Professor Francesco Corvaro, Special Envoy on Climate Change of Italy, Dr. Philip Attuquayefio, AU Climate, Peace and Security Advisor, and Ms. Rebecca Alt from Germany.

In his remarks, the SRSG reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to advancing the Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) agenda, welcoming the Hub as an important mechanism to operationalise conflict-sensitive climate action. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that Africa’s Common Position on CPS informs global climate processes and highlighted UNOAU’s readiness to support the COP29 Presidency and strengthen coherence between Addis Ababa and New York in driving integrated responses to climate and peace challenges.
