UNOAU Supports AU Training of Trainers on Compliance and Accountability for ECCAS Personnel
From 22 September to 2 October 2025, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), supported the African Union (AU) in delivering a Training of Trainers (ToT) course on Compliance and Accountability. The training, held in Libreville, Gabon, brought together 26 senior civilian, police, and military officers from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
The ToT formed part of the AU Compliance and Accountability Framework Project, launched in November 2022, which seeks to enhance the AU’s capacity to ensure that Peace Support Operations (PSOs) are planned and conducted in full compliance with International Human Rights Law (IHRL), International Humanitarian Law (IHL), relevant regional human rights instruments, and established standards of conduct and discipline.
The course aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of ECCAS personnel to train others in their respective countries, thereby promoting adherence to IHL and IHRL principles across AU PSO deployments. Facilitators from the AU Peace Support Operations Division, OHCHR, and UNOAU led the sessions, contributing to the broader objective of enhancing accountability and professionalism within AU-led missions.
