From 11 to 15 March, UNOAU, together with the AUC and ATMIS, participated in the Assessment of Capability (AoC) of Ghana Formed Police Unit (FPU)-4 expected to deploy on rotation to ATMIS, in Mogadishu, Somalia. The exercise took place in the headquarters of Ghana FPU in Accra, Ghana, and the objective of the assessment was to assess and verify the readiness of Ghana FPU-4 for deployment to ATMIS. A total of 204 Ghana FPU-4 personnel were screened including 28 female personnel. The team focused on verification of basic eligibility criteria for personnel and unit composition, such as command elements and drivers, individual capabilities, unit capabilities and medical assessment.

The assessment included a focus on the unit’s ability to perform Police Techniques, Public Order Management, Protection of Civilians, protection of AU personnel and facilities, and their ability to undertake high risk police operations. The various competencies and embedded capabilities were found to be well represented, and high levels of discipline and cohesion in the unit were observed.
