SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga Meets with Ambassador of Botswana and Incoming AUPSC Chairperson

On 16 September 2025, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, met with H.E. Tebelelo Alfred Boang, Ambassador of Botswana and Permanent Representative to the African Union, who will serve as the incoming Chairperson of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) for the month of October.

The meeting formed part of the SRSG’s regular engagements with incoming AUPSC Chairpersons. SRSG Onanga-Anyanga reaffirmed UNOAU’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s Chairpersonship, particularly in the lead-up to the Annual Joint Consultative Meeting (AJCM) and Informal Joint Seminar (IJS) between the AUPSC and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He commended the strong tradition of these Council-to-Council engagements, now in their 19th and 10th years respectively, as vital mechanisms for promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between the two bodies.

Ambassador Boang outlined the priorities for the month, noting that October would include key engagements such as the AUPSC–EUPSC meeting in Brussels (8–9 October) and the AUPSC–UNSC meeting in Addis Ababa (16–17 October), and discussed ongoing efforts related to Security Council Resolution 2719.
