From 24-26 July, UNOAU participated in a workshop organized by the AUC Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) in Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia, as part of the process to develop a training package for Police Senior Management in the context of the African Standby Force (ASF) Pledged Police Standby Capabilities (PPSC). The workshop brought together representatives from AU-PSOD, AU strategic partners (GIZ and ISS), AUSSOM, EASF, PSSG, and RECs/RMs (EASF, NARC and SADC) and other experts.

The workshop aimed to initiate the development of a Generic Leadership Training Package for the Police Senior Management Team (PSMT) as part of the ASF PPSC. The workshop focused on extensive consultation with stakeholders and partners on the structure and content of a training package that would adequately prepare PSMT officers to lead the Police Component effectively in increasingly complex PSO environments.

This workshop marked the first stage in a broader process to develop a comprehensive PSMT training package. The next steps planned include developing and approving the course design, whereafter a technical team will continue with the development of modules and training methodologies. UNOAU will continue to support the AUC in the development of training materials.
