UNOAU Supports Facilitation of the Comprehensive Protection of Civilians Course

From 1 to 15 September 2025, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) supported the facilitation of the Comprehensive Protection of Civilians (CPOC) Course held in Nairobi, Kenya. The training was organized in collaboration with the African Union Compliance and Accountability Team, the International Peace Support Training Centre, the British Peace Support Team (Africa), and the Slovenia Peacekeeping Training Centre.

The course aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, plan, and implement Protection of Civilians (PoC) mandates in both AU and UN peace support operations. It further sought to enhance understanding of PoC frameworks and strengthen the operational effectiveness of the African Standby Force.

A total of 28 participants from 18 countries—comprising middle- to senior-level military, police, and civilian personnel—took part in the training, which covered conceptual, legal, and operational frameworks for the protection of civilians in armed conflict.
