UNOAU welcomed new leadership as Mr. Haile Menkerios' term came to an end in June. Assuming her new role as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde embarked on a mission to New York where she briefed the Security Council and African Union Peace and Security Council on developments in the continent in line with the UN-AU partnership in peace and security. In June, the African Union held its 31st Summit in Mauritania which the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed and other senior UN officials attended, and was soon followed by the Second Annual UN-AU Conference in Addis Ababa held at the AU Headquarters led by the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres and AU Chairperson, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat.
