Police Strategic Support Group Technical Planning Workshop on Final Police Roster Refinement for the African Standby Force Police Pledged Capabilities takes place in Pretoria

From 4 to 8 April 2022, as part of support to the African Union (AU) for full operationalization of the African Standby Force, UNOAU participated in the Final AU Police Roster refinement workshop that was held in Pretoria, South Africa. The objective of the workshop was to refine the AU Police Roster Mapping processes for AU Police Professional Officers (PPOs), Individual Police Officers (IPOs), Specialized Police Teams (SPTs) and Formed Police Units (FPUs) for the Africa Standby Force Police pledged capabilities. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as well as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK FCDO), and was attended by the AU roster specialist, experts of the AU Capability Development Unit, AU Police Officers as well as police officers from Namibia, the Gambia, Burundi and Ghana. UNOAU Head of Institutional and Operational Partnership Service was the lead facilitator assisted by the AU Police consultant. The workflows for PPOs, IPOs, FPUs and SPTs as part of a Police Roster System, were discussed in detail and refined, and a draft roadmap for the development of the roster system was developed. UNOAU will continue to provide support in the further development and implementation of the AU Police Roster, including the development and review of SOPs/guidelines/training packages/monitoring and evaluation tools relevant to the process. UNOAU will also collaborate with the AU in developing a project plan which will be used to reach out to AU partners for successful realization of the AU police roster.
