SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU Calls for Action on Climate, Peace and Security in Africa during High-Level Dialogue at the Second Africa Climate Summit

On 9 September 2025, during the High-Level Dialogue on the theme “From Crisis to Resilience: Advancing Climate Justice, Peace and Security in Africa,” convened by the African Union as part of the Second Africa Climate Summit, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga delivered a keynote address calling for urgent and collective action on the Climate, Peace and Security (CPS) agenda.

He stressed that “business as usual is no longer an option”, highlighting the crucial role of the Climate Security Mechanism (CSM) and its network of CPS Advisors across the continent in advancing African-led climate security solutions. The SRSG reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the African Union and African Member States in achieving climate resilience and sustainable peace.

Other speakers included H.E. Bankole Adeoye, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security; Mr. Omar Faruk Osman, President of the Federation of African Journalists; and Dr. Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
