UNOAU continued support to the AUCF Project
On 27 July, UNOAU participated, with other UN partners, in the monthly African Union Compliance and Accountability Framework Project (AUCF) meeting. Participants were drawn from UN offices which jointly support the AUCF project including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET), the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPCS), and UNOAU. The meeting was aimed at updating UN partners on progress made in the implementation of the AUCF project, and to discuss upcoming activities as well as areas of concern. During the meeting, participants highlighted different issues impacting the progress of the project implementation including some delays in the recruitment process and deployment of new staff; challenges in the information sharing between the AU and the UN; and the need to provide a more targeted support to critical areas of the AUCF project. During the discussions, the AUCF project team updated on progress made in the implementation of activities under the overall guidance of the Strategic Steering Committee and the Operational Technical Committee, while underscoring the need to discuss the future of the AUCF project in the context of the ATMIS drawdown. As a result of the meeting, participants agreed on the importance of information sharing as part of the broader AU-UN partnership to allow for a more targeted and informed support to the project from the UN counterpart.
