UNOAU facilitates Africa Standby Force Generic Military Pre-Deployment Training

UNOAU together with the African Union (AU) and the Training Centres of Excellence and Training Institutions (TCEs/TIs), facilitated a two-week pilot training for the African for the Standby Force (ASF) Generic Military Pre-Deployment Training (MPDT) at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional Peacekeeping Training Center (RPTC) in Harare, Zimbabwe. This training was sponsored by the British Peace Support Training Team – Africa and held from 18 to 25 March. It was attended by participants from Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), North African Regional Capability (NARC), SADC, Council of Ministers for Defence and Security (EASFCOM), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and G5 Sahel Joint Force and is expected to culminate in a table-top exercise. Earlier in January, UNOAU supported the AU in developing a curriculum in Accra, Ghana, which is made up of a reader and a facilitators manual. Additionally, the pilot training package is aimed at finalising the validation process for the curriculum which was initiated in early 2021. The curriculum will be shared with the Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) and the TCEs/TIs to guide future ASF Military Pre-Deployment Training for the ASF.
