UNOAU participates in the 1281st AU PSC session on the “Synergy between the Global Framework Ammunition (GFA) and the Regional Arms and Ammunition Control Instruments”
On 4 June, the AU Peace, and Security Council (AUPSC) held its 1281st meeting at Ambassadorial level to discuss a comparative study conducted by the Commission on the synergies between the existing regional instruments and the Global Framework Ammunition (GFA) under the theme: ‘Synergy between the Global Framework Ammunition (GFA) and the Regional Arms and Ammunition Control Instruments.’
The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Innocent Shiyo, Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the African Union and Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union for the month of June. The AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, provided introductory remarks, which were followed by a presentation by the Weapons and Ammunitions Senior Adviser, Representative of the Regional Centre on Small Arms in the Great Lakes Region, Mr. Eric Kayiranga.
The representatives of the Regional Economic Communities involved in the study, ECCAS, ECOWAS and SADC, also delivered their statements. SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga delivered the consolidated statement of the United Nations, reflecting the views and perspectives of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and UNOAU.
