On November 13, 2023, UNOAU participated in the 6th Annual Informal Consultative Meeting of the AUPSC and UN Peacebuilding Commission. The 6^th Annual Consultative Meeting between the UN PBC and the AU PSC demonstrated the two bodies’ commitment to institutionalizing cooperation and enhancing collaboration in peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction. It provided a valuable opportunity for an exchange of ideas and perspectives and to foster greater strategic coherence in the work of both bodies. Throughout the discussion, members of both bodies underscored the need to strengthen and enhance the partnership between the UN PBC and AU PSC and the need to reinforce political commitment and strengthen operational engagement at the technical and strategic levels. Both bodies expressed interest in convening more frequent meetings, engaging in joint analysis and consultation. Interveners highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict and particularly the peace, security, and development nexus, and both bodies commended the AUC in operationalizing the AU Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) policy and the PCRD center in Cairo, Egypt, as well as the AU Peace Fund. View photos here.
