UNOAU provides technical support to trainers from East African Standby Force in Mentoring Programme on Compliance and Accountability
From 2 to 9 August, UNOAU in collaboration with the African Union (AU) Peace Support Operations Division and OHCHR, supported the East African Standby Force (EASF) in a mentorship programme for Senior Military and Police Officers from various Member States of the EASF. The training took place in Kigali, Rwanda.
The aim of the mentorship programme was to enhance the capacities of the trainers to deliver training on the AU Compliance and Accountability Framework for senior Military, Police and Civilian personnel preparing to deploy into EASF peace support operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other AU mandated peace support operations.
In his closing remarks, the Rwandan Defense Spokesperson, Brigadier General Roland Rwivanga, underscored the importance of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2719 (2023) in supporting AU-led peace support operations and the need for all EASF Member states to ensure accountability in peace support operations with respect to International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law, as well applicable standards of conduct and discipline.
