UNOAU supports AU in the design and delivery of a Training of Trainers Course in Compliance and Accountability for the Somali National Army

From 13 to 20 March, UNOAU in collaboration with OHCHR supported the African Union (AU) in the design and delivery of a Training of Trainers programme in Compliance and Accountability for the Somali National Army. The training took place in Kampala, Uganda, and was based on the AU Strategic Framework for Compliance and Accountability for peace support operations. The Framework requires AU peace support personnel and entities providing support to AU forces to ensure respect for International Human Rights Law (IHRL), International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and standards of conduct and discipline. The aim of the course was therefore to provide the participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to enable them to further build the capacity of the Somali National Army to fully comply with IHL and IHRL standards in the conduct of their operations alongside ATMIS. A total of 30 participants, mainly senior military officers, drawn from various army units in Somalia attended the training.
