UNSC President and AUPSC Chairperson for the month of August hold informal monthly consultative meeting
On 16 August, the President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of August and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the UN, Ambassador Michael Imran Kanu, and the Chairperson of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) for the month of August and Permanent Representative of Botswana to the AU, Ambassador Tebelelo Alfred Boang, held their informal monthly consultative meeting. The meeting, which took place virtually, focused on an exchange of information on the programs of work and priorities of both Councils for the month of August within the context of building synergies on matters specific to Africa and on areas of common interest.
Both Principals reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced cooperation and emphasized the need for synergies and alignment through effective coordination between the two Councils. They particularly emphasized the need for close collaboration in preparation for the 18th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting between the UNSC and AUPSC, scheduled to take place in October in New York. They further expressed their deep appreciation for the role of Mozambique as Chair of the Ad-hoc Working Group on African Affairs, as well as for the important work of the A3. It is noteworthy that Botswana and Sierra Leone currently both serve as AUPSC members.
