SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU meets with the Ambassador of Rwanda to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU
On 5 September, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Major General (retired) Charles Karamba.
SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment, and extended his congratulations through him to the President of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame, on his re-election. He recognised Rwanda’s advances on the Sustainable Development Goals, its contribution to peace and security on the continent and beyond, and the efforts being invested in the quest for a sustainable solution to the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, including through the Luanda Process and the East African Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Process. He commended Rwanda’s championship of AU institutional reforms and other AU initiatives, including the AU Human Rights Memorial Project, which the Ambassador committed to complete jointly with the AU and UNOAU.
The discussions also covered the next steps on UNSCR 2719; Rwanda’s continued support to activities of the Group of Friends of the AU-UN Partnership; and the African Hall project at the UN compound in Addis-Ababa, UNECA, cognizant that Rwanda is co-steering the committee overseeing its renovations.
