On behalf of the United Nations Office to the African Union, I would like to thank our esteemed partners and stakeholders for their continued support to the UN-AU partnership in promoting peace and security in Africa as a clear expression of trust in an effective multilateral system.

We commit to build on the Pact for the Future which offers a shared vision for overcoming global threats in a rapidly changing world, while seizing opportunities for better outcomes.

A new year marks a new beginning. We, at UNOAU, use this time to reflect on lessons learned and plan for the future. As the African proverb goes “Tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for today.”

In 2025, we aim to strengthen our strategic partnership with the African Union. We will amplify our efforts to build more cohesive societies, committed to advancing justice for all. We will remain united in addressing existential challenges in Africa, such as conflicts, the climate emergency, and poverty, through public and private initiatives that align fully with and accelerate the effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063.

To this end, we will multiply our efforts to advance and streamline conflict prevention and early warning, encompassing education and learning for all. Furthermore, we are committed to addressing public health concerns, protecting human rights and strengthening our initiatives to promote and achieve gender equity and youth engagement.

In 2025 and onwards, we look forward to working closely with the African Union and our invaluable partners, towards a more peaceful, prosperous and resilient Africa.
