SRSG to the African Union and Head of UNOAU holds meeting with the Ambassador of Zimbabwe

On 10 May, Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the AU and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Ayanga paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Sophia Nyamudeza, also incoming chair of the AU Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) for June.

SRSG Onanga-Ayanga briefed Ambassador Nyamudeza on the importance that the UN Secretary-General attaches to the UN-AU strategic partnership. He highlighted, among others, the latter’s recent visits for the  AU Summit in February and to Burundi in May as well as the visit of the Deputy Secretary-General to Addis Ababa for engagements with the AU in May, and in that regard, briefed on the role of the UNOAU.  

The SRSG also briefed Ambassador Nyamudeza on the monthly informal meetings of the incoming Chair of the AUPSC and the incoming President of the UNSC. Ambassador Nyamudeza expressed her readiness to meet with the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the UN, the incoming President of the UNSC, at the envisaged monthly informal meeting.
