From 19-20 October, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, participated in the 5th Edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, held in Aswan, Egypt, under the theme “A World in Flux, A Continent in Motion: Navigating Africa’s Progress Amid Global Challenges.”

The Forum explored solutions to the evolving global and regional peace and security landscape, with a particular focus on Africa. Discussions highlighted the opportunities arising from continental economic and infrastructural integration, the political economy of conflict, and the importance of effective governance of extractive resources. Participants also emphasized the need to accelerate the harmonisation of African trade and economic policies to advance sustainable peace and development across the continent.
