On 6 June, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the UN and President of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the month of June, Ambassador Joonkook Hwang, met with the Ambassador of Uganda to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, who also serves as the AUPSC Chairperson for the month of June, Rebecca Amuge Otengo. The Ambassadors noted areas of common interest and concern, including cyber security and artificial intelligence as well as country files, including discussions on Somalia/ATMIS and Sudan. It was noted that the AUPSC will undertake a field mission to South Sudan to assess the progress in the implementation of relevant transitional tasks necessary to create conditions ahead of elections scheduled for December and hold a dedicated session on the situation in Sudan at the level of Heads of State and Government, on 22 June. Similarly, the UNSC is scheduled to consider the situation in Sudan with respect to UNSC Resolution (UNSCR) 2715 (2023) and receive a briefing on the Sudan Sanctions Committee (UNSCR 1591 (2005)). It was also noted that the AUPSC session on the situation in Somalia/ATMIS, due on 20 June, could feed into the deliberations of the UNSC when considering Somalia related matters on 24 June.
