UNOAU supports AUC in Assessment for Mission Service for Kenya National Police Service to identify prospective Individual Police Officers to be deployed to AU Mission in Somalia
From 7 to 12 June, UNOAU participated in the Assessment for Mission Service (AMS) of prospective Individual Police Officers from the Kenya National Police Service in Nairobi, Kenya. The Police Selection, Assessment and Advisory Team (PSAAT) which assessed the Kenyan Police was comprised of five experts from the AUC, ATMIS and UNOAU. The AMS included the verification of basic eligibility criteria, the assessment of language proficiency, driving and weapon handling/shooting skills. A total of 209 personnel (179 male police officers, and 32 female police officers) were presented for AMS of which 72 candidates passed. During the exercise, the PSAAT observed the good will and support for ATMIS by the Kenya National Police Service and a high level of preparedness given the quality of candidates presented to the AU PSAAT. At the end of the exercise, the PSAAT recommended that the Kenya National Police Service should conduct a pre-deployment training for all successful candidates before their deployment.
