UNOAU participates in AU SAAT mission for assessment of Nigerian prospective IPOs prior deployment to AMISOM

UNOAU participated in an AU Selection Assessment and Assistance Team (SAAT) Mission to Nigeria. The objective of the mission was to select prospective Individual Police Officers (IPOs) to be deployed to AMISOM from 26 to 30 April.

The total number of IPOs presented for the exercise was one-hundred and eighty-one (181), out of which forty (40) were female. The assessment team included Officers from the AUC Police and Military Units, UNOAU, as well as the AMISOM Head of Police Component. During the mission, the SAAT met with the Nigeria Police Director of Peacekeeping Directorate who represented the Inspector General of Police. The team briefed on the objective of the Mission and provided an update on the level of the training that the Officers had undergone and the logistics in place for the assessment. The AU team leader equally briefed the IPOs on the AU background, organs and the functions of the Union - while the Head of AMISOM Police Component briefed on AMISOM components and the situation in Somalia. At the end of the exercise, eighty-nine (89) Officers were selected pending medical clearance.
