UNOAU Participates in AU-UN-NATO Workshop on Technological Support to AU Peace Support Operations
From 11–15 August, UNOAU in collaboration with the UN C4ISR Academy for Peace Operations (UNCAP), the AU, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), held a joint team development and coaching workshop in Entebbe, Uganda. The workshop aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation among the AU, UN and NATO by fostering mutual understanding, enhancing collaboration and building leadership capacity. It also focused on improving strategic and operational coordination between the AU and the UN in peacekeeping and peace support operations (PSOs), in line with the priorities outlined in the Action for Peace (A4P) and A4P+ initiatives. Key outcomes included: the finalization of a roadmap for conducting capacity needs assessment on the use of C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) capabilities in AU PSOs; identification of existing capability gaps hindering effective mandate implementation; identification of potential funding sources to support the initiative; and the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress and impact. Participants included experts from the UN Integrated Training Service, AU Peace Support Operations Division, Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE), UNOAU, UNCAP, and NATO. Based on the findings of the forthcoming capacity needs assessment, UNCAP and NATO are expected to provide targeted technological support to enhance the effectiveness of AU-led PSOs. |
