UNOAU Supports Workshop Development of ASF Generic FPU-PDT package

From 31 July to 4 August, UNOAU attended a workshop organized by the AUC PSOD in Debre Zeit, Ethiopia. The purpose of the workshop was to identify progress made so far and to consolidate efforts in the development of an African Standby Force (ASF) Generic Formed Police Unit Pre-deployment training (FPU-PDT) package. The aim of the FPU-PDT package is to ensure standardized training by Member States who pledged FPU support as part of the ASF Police Pledged Standby Capabilities. The workshop was attended by the core group responsible for the development of the FPU-PDT, including two Police Officers from AUC PSOD, partners from the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the British Peace Support Team (BPST), as well as members of the Police Strategic Support Group (PSSG), FPU Technical Experts, and UNOAU. As a result of the workshop, training materials were finalized and progress was also made in the development of the field training materials that will include a “Reader and Facilitator’s Guide”, as well as a “Participant’s Journal”. UNOAU will continue to support the AUC PSOD, over the next ten months, in the development of training materials for a series of virtual meetings and workshops. Experts from Members States and representatives from the Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) will be invited to attend the final validation workshop.
