AU and UN Task Teams convene a consultative meeting on the implementation of UNSCR 2719 (2023)

On 23 and 24 May, the AU and UN Task Teams, with the support of UNOAU, convened their first consultative meeting on the implementation of UNSCR 2719 (2023) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The AUC and the UN Secretariat teams were led respectively by General Cheick Dembele, Head of the AU Peace Support Operations Division, and General Mamadou Gaye, former MINUSMA Force Commander.

The meeting was also attended by other senior officials from the two organizations, including UNOAU Representatives. The meeting agreed on modalities for the development and finalization of a joint Roadmap around four thematic workstreams, namely: (i) Joint Planning decision-making making and Reporting; (ii) Mission Support; (iii) Financing and Budgeting; (iv) Human Rights Compliance and Protection of Civilians.

The Teams also agreed on an action plan outlining the way forward towards the finalization of the Joint Roadmap that will be adopted by the AU Chairperson and the UN Secretary-General during the next Annual Conference of the two organisations scheduled to take place in October.
