UNOAU Participates in the 4th Workshop on Development of ASF-FPU Pre-deployment Training Package

From May 27 to June 3, UNOAU participated in the 4th Workshop on the Development of the African Standby Force Formed Police Unit Pre-Deployment Training Package in Addis Ababa. The workshop was convened by the African Union Commission and participants at the workshop included representatives of the AUC Peace Support Operations Division,  FPU Experts from Member States, members of the Police Strategic Support Group (PSSG), the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the British Peace Support Team-Africa (BPST-A) and UNOAU.

This workshop forms part of a series of engagements aimed at delivering a full ASF-FPU Pre-deployment package comprising of three key documents: Reader, Facilitators’ Guide and toolkit,  and the Participants’ Journal.  Specific objectives of the workshop were to: assess progress in the development of the Reader; structure the framework for the development of the Facilitators’ Guide;  draft facilitators’ guide on identified modules.

During the workshop, participants provided feedback on the completion of modules as part of the Reader.  Eleven modules have been edited while six need finalization and editing.  Further, participants discussed and adopted a standard structure for the development of the Facilitators’ guide followed by break-out groups to work on specific modules as identified by the team leader. Outstanding tasks for the finalization of the Facilitator’s guide were distributed among participants who committed to cover their respective areas by end of August 2024. The next workshop is planned for the first week of September 2024.

The AUC expressed profound gratitude to the UNOAU for the consistent technical support and guidance provided since the inception of the FPU PDT development process.  UNOAU will continue to support this important endeavour.
