On 13 March, the United Nations Office to the African Union participated in a Joint Steering Committee meeting of the Multinational Joint Task Force, convened by the African Union Peace Support Operations Division in cooperation with international partners, including the European Union.
The meeting was led by the Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force, Major General S.T. Audu, who provided an update on operational developments. He noted continued progress despite ongoing security threats, including from Boko Haram and affiliated groups, and highlighted improved stability in parts of the Lake Chad Basin, enabling the return of displaced communities.
Discussions emphasized the importance of sustained coordination among participating Member States and partners. The meeting also addressed ongoing operational challenges and the need for strengthened political engagement to support regional cooperation.
Participants reviewed ongoing joint African Union and United Nations initiatives and reaffirmed the importance of coordinated support to enhance operational effectiveness, including efforts to address emerging security threats such as improvised explosive devices.
UNOAU reiterated its commitment to supporting the Multinational Joint Task Force and its partners in advancing stability and security in the Lake Chad Basin.
