From 1 to 5 June, the United Nations Office to the African Union, together with representatives of the African Union and Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms, participated in a workshop on the development of force generation tools in Nairobi, Kenya.
The workshop focused on strengthening military force generation for the African Standby Force and African Union peace support operations through improved planning, coordination and readiness. Discussions promoted a capability based approach to force generation and examined ways to enhance verification, deployment and operational effectiveness.
Participants agreed on measures to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and improve the responsiveness and sustainability of African led peace operations in addressing evolving peace and security challenges.
UNOAU’s participation reflects its continued support to the implementation of the UN-AU Joint Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security and efforts to strengthen the operational readiness of African peace support operations.
