UNOAU continues to support the African Union in strengthening the African Standby Force (ASF) through wide-ranging planning and execution activities, including sustained participation in the Civilian, Military and Police Strategic Support Groups (CSSG, MSSG and PSSG), where it contributes to the development of strategic guidance documents, the review of processes and procedures, and the preparation of training packages. Working closely with the AU and ASF, IOPS also supports the operationalization of the AU Continental Movement Coordination Centre (CMCC) to enhance strategic airlift capability and improve coordination with regional movement coordination centres in the RECs/RMs.

UNOAU also strengthens the African Standby Capacity civilian roster by identifying and vetting experts for rapid deployment, developing the HR Strategic Plan and related guidance, and supporting the Compliance Framework Strategic Plan, including conduct and discipline. The Office remains fully engaged in key ASF strategic consultations and AU‑led discussions.

The Office also advances ASF strategic lift capability through targeted technical engagements – including work on Cameroon’s Douala airlift MoU (July 2025), AU–Nigeria technical talks (August 2025), and follow‑up consultations with regional PLANELMs in Tripoli (October 2025) – strengthening operational readiness, mobility, and rapid response across the continent.
