From 16 to 20 March, the United Nations Office to the African Union provided technical support and facilitated key sessions during the Thirty First East African Standby Force Regional Senior Mission Leaders Course in Nairobi, Kenya.
The course aimed to strengthen the leadership, management and decision making capacities of senior personnel preparing to serve in African Union and United Nations peace operations. Sessions focused on strategic leadership in multidimensional operations, mandate interpretation in AU and UN missions, integrated mission planning and coordination, and crisis response in complex environments.
The programme also included panel discussions and scenario based exercises designed to enhance operational readiness and practical leadership skills. A total of 32 senior civilian, police and military participants from across East Africa and beyond took part in the training.
By supporting the course, UNOAU contributed to stronger AU UN interoperability, harmonized planning approaches and enhanced leadership preparedness for peace support operations in rapidly evolving conflict settings.
