On 18 March, the United Nations Office to the African Union attended a high level dialogue on African Non Military Conflict Intervention Practices in Addis Ababa. The event was organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung AU Cooperation Office and the ANCIP Research Network.
The dialogue presented research findings from 2022 to 2026 on non military conflict interventions and examined the effectiveness of African Peace and Security Architecture tools, including the Panel of the Wise, AU Liaison Offices, civil society engagement, and the participation of youth and women.
Participants discussed progress and persistent gaps in preventive diplomacy, early warning and early action, and the coordination of peacebuilding efforts across institutions. The dialogue also introduced the ANCIP database as an analytical tool to support policy and operational decision making.
Discussions highlighted the need to strengthen coordination across APSA pillars, enhance the visibility and policy role of AU Liaison Offices, formalize partnerships with civil society, and expand structured inclusion of youth and women in peace processes.
UNOAU’s participation reflected its continued support for African led conflict prevention, mediation and peacebuilding efforts.
