7th Africa Climate Talks

From 30 April to 1 May, the United Nations Office to the African Union attended the Seventh Africa Climate Talks, convened by the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting brought together African climate negotiators, policymakers and development partners to review outcomes from the Second Africa Climate Summit, the Thirteenth Climate Change and Development in Africa Conference, and COP30. Participants also assessed the implications of the first Global Stocktake for Africa’s next generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0).

Discussions focused on strengthening Africa’s negotiating capacity and consolidating the continent’s post-COP30 climate agenda ahead of COP32. Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination, identifying priority negotiating issues and establishing dedicated working groups to build strategic coalitions in support of Africa’s climate priorities.

UNOAU’s participation reflects its continued support for African Union efforts to advance climate action and strengthen the links between climate, peace and security ahead of future global climate negotiations.
