Communique from the 12th Joint Consultative meeting between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Peace and Security Council held at UN Headquarters in New York on 19 July, 2018.
The complex peace and security challenges we face in Africa are such that neither the United Nations nor the African Union can address the challenges on their own. Partnership is therefore not a choice but a necessity.
This meeting is an illustration of the importance the United Nations and the African Union attach to a strong partnership, based on a recognition of our inter-dependence, mutual respect, shared values and comparative advantages.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres convened the second AU-UN Annual Conference at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The second Annual Conference reviewed the implementation of the Joint Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security and welcomed the progress made.

On 9 July 2018, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres convened the second AU- UN Annual Conference at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
On May 22, 2018, the African Union Peace and Security Council convened an open session on the Principles of Protection of Civilians in Conflict Areas in Africa.
Mine Action day exhibition at AU Headquarters
