Africa Climate Action Programme (AfCAP) and Africa Action Plan on Carbon Markets Launch

UNOAU supported the African Union in launching the Africa Climate Action Programme and the Africa Action Plan on Carbon Markets, marking a key milestone in strengthening Africa’s coordinated climate response and financing strategy, that also integrates climate, peace and security elements in practice.

On 14 November, the African Union launched the Africa Climate Action Programme (AfCAP) and the Africa Action Plan on Carbon Markets as Africa’s flagship frameworks for climate transformation and carbon market readiness. The high-level opening panel included Mr. Moses Vilakati, Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development and Blue Economy, AUC; and Dr. Richard Muyungi, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators, and Mr. Matthias Naab, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa.

The session was moderated by the UNOAU Climate, Peace and Security Advisor. AfCAP establishes a continent-wide platform for coordinated climate action—including climate, peace and security dimensions. The AAPCM guides African Member States in developing coherent, credible and investment-ready carbon-market policies.
