From 7 to 9 September, the ClimDev-Africa partners (the African Union Commission, African Development Bank, United Nations and Afreximbank) convened the Fourteenth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-XIV) under the theme “From Pledges to Implementation: The Belém–Antalya–Addis Roadmap.”
The conference provided a platform for consolidating African climate priorities ahead of COP31 and shaping the pathway towards an African-hosted COP32. Discussions focused on African agency, implementation, climate finance, adaptation and resilience, carbon markets, just transition, and Climate, Peace and Security (CPS).
UNOAU supported substantive preparations for the dedicated session on “Climate, Peace and Security in Africa: From Policy to Implementation” and delivered the scene-setting presentation. Discussions highlighted the evolution of the CPS agenda in Africa from political recognition and policy development towards deeper analysis and implementation, including stronger integration of climate-related peace and security risks into policy and decision-making.
CCDA-XIV also advanced discussions on an Antalya–Addis Roadmap aimed at translating key priorities into implementation, including through an implementation matrix to be taken forward at COP31, reviewed thereafter and further developed through consultations ahead of COP32.
UNOAU will continue supporting the ClimDev-Africa partnership to strengthen the integration of Climate, Peace and Security and political analysis into Africa’s broader climate agenda.
