On 16 February, the UN-AU Joint Task Force (JTF) on Peace and Security held its twenty-sixth consultative meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The AUC and the UN Secretariat were represented respectively by Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, and Ambassador Mohamed Edrees, AU Permanent Representative to the UN; and the United Nations Under Secretaries-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo and Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga. The meeting was also attended by other senior officials from the two organisations.

The Joint Task Force reviewed the status of the UN-AU partnership and progress in implementing the Joint UN-AU Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security. Participants exchanged views on peace and security developments and mediation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan.

The meeting also addressed the resurgence of unconstitutional changes of government and the need for predictable financing of AU-led peace support operations. Participants reaffirmed the importance of UN Security Council resolution 2719 and ongoing efforts to operationalize it through a joint AU-UN roadmap.

The JTF reiterated the commitment of both organizations to strengthen coordination and enhance the effectiveness and impact of their partnership in addressing peace and security challenges across Africa.
