From 22 to 28 February, the United Nations Office to the African Union participated in the Joint African Union and Federal Government of Somalia operational assessment for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia.
The assessment reviewed progress against agreed benchmarks and examined operational conditions shaping future configuration options for the mission. Discussions considered progress made by the Federal Government of Somalia, as well as ongoing challenges related to intelligence, leadership capacity, logistics and financing.
UNOAU played a facilitative and advisory role throughout the mission, supporting the consolidation of benchmarks, advising on the alignment of reporting requirements with United Nations Security Council resolution 2809 (2025), and engaging with the African Union, the Federal Government of Somalia, AUSSOM, the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia, the United Nations Support Office in Somalia, Troop Contributing Countries and International Partners.
UNOAU’s participation reflects its continued support to African Union Peace Support Operations and coordinated AU-UN engagement in Somalia.
