From 24 to 28 August, the United Nations Office to the African Union participated in an African Union Peace Support Operations Division workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, to develop training modules for the AU Generic Training Package for Police Senior Management Teams in Peace Support Operations.
The workshop developed draft content for all eight modules of the training package, aimed at strengthening the preparedness and effectiveness of senior police leadership serving in AU peace support operations.
UNOAU provided technical support to align the training package with United Nations Police standards, international peace operations doctrine and relevant best practices. Contributions covered key areas including leadership and management, mandate implementation, protection of civilians, conduct and discipline, and security sector reform.
UNOAU also supported the refinement and harmonization of the eight modules and initiated development of a Facilitator’s Guide to support their future delivery. The training package will contribute to strengthening the capacity of Police Senior Management Teams to effectively plan, lead and implement policing responsibilities in AU peace support operations.
