On 26 January 2023, the SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of Norway to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Stian Christensen. The SRSG UNOAU briefed on the UN SG’s priorities including a) prioritizing climate emergency interventions; b) addressing the unfolding effects of the Russia-Ukraine war; c) mobilising different actors to mitigate the adverse impacts of COVID-19; and d) advocating for a reform of International Financial Institutions. He also briefed on the SG’s proposal for a new Agenda for Peace, which would address existential threats such as climate change, global economic distortions, terrorism, and mistrust in the multilateral system. AmbassadorStian Christensen briefed on the ongoing preparations for the adoption of Norway’s new strategy for Africa and reiterated Norway’s continued support to the AU-UN Partnership. He further elaborated on the priorities and activities of the Forum of the Group of Friends of the AU-UN partnership where Norway currently serves as co-chair.
